J. Whitson and his brother have been taping some of the fantastic bands that have appeared at Birmingham’s Bottletree Café for a while now. They did that in anticipation of airing their footage on Alabama Public Television, for a show called “We Have Signal.” Wednesday night, at Bottletree, they’re hosting a preview of sorts for this fantastic show, and they’re calling it the “We Have Signal” APT Teaser and Fundraiser. The idea is that you come, watch an hour-long teaser featuring video of bands like The Weakerthans, Bill Frisell, the Fiery Furnaces, The Dodos, Beach House, and many more, all performing at the Bottletree. You drink. You may even eat. If you enjoy the video and you want to see more public television like We Have Signal, you donate something. It’s that frickin’ simple. And, really, is there anything else to do on a Wednesday? “We Have Signal: Live from Birmingham” should start airing on APT this October. The flyer for the event lists a website, wehavesignal.org, that was not live as of press time but may start operating in the future.
