Evans performs at the Plaza

By B. Thompson, Posted on 25 February 2008

In the Memphis underground/garage rock scene, all roads seem to lead to vocalist/guitaristimages3.jpg Monsieur Jeffrey Evans. The Ohio native and Memphis resident has established a number of musical projects in his adopted hometown including 68 Comeback, Gibson Brothers and South Filthy. On Saturday, March 1, Evans will head south to perform at Southside’s legendary Upside Down Plaza. Joining Evans at the show will be Birmingham’s own Taylor Holingsworth on guitar.

Known as a Memphis legend and a walking encyclopedia of music, Evans is renowned for his affable stage persona. Recently, Evans has been performing in a guitar/drums duo - a la The White Stripes and The Black Keys - alongside Ross Johnson. In addition to performing and recording, Evans has also handled production duties for Tav Falco, Porch Ghouls and Mr. Airplane Man among others. Much of Evans’ recorded output can be obtained at the Memphis independent music retailer Goner Records (www.goner-records.com).

    ‘68 Comeback!

I was in his shop one day when someone told Jeff that parking meters were free on weekends.

He repiled, “Think of the savings.”

Who promoted this? Never knew it was happening.
