It’s time to put this whole Web 2.0 thing to work — with a contest.
Jefferson County Commissioner and mayoral wannabe Larry Langford told the Birmingham News this week that he’s running for mayor. And his campaign slogan: “Let’s do something.”
Alas, Leapin’ Larry’s campaign has all the urgency of a group of bored teenagers with a full tank of gas and an open weekend schedule. At least it beats his old campaign slogan: “May the work I’ve done speak for me.”
Still, as campaign slogans go, it doesn’t quite get the message, supposing there is one, across to voters. Last week, Sen. Hillary Clinton solicited suggestions on her website for her campaign theme song, and we’re going to do the same here for Leapin’ Larry’s slogan. We’re opening the floor for suggestions, in a contest of sorts. Contestants may submit as many entries as they can concoct in the comments section of this post. The winner gets a sandwich and a beer or two at the Garage Café. Entries will be judged on creativity, irony, invective or whatever else makes us laugh the hardest.

“Because even the illusion of progress would be refreshing.”
“Now let’s turn the rest of town into a second-rate amusement park.”
