Inauguration Trail, Day 2

The Weekly's road-weary traveler winds his way a bit closer to Washington, D.C., and Barack Obama's inauguration. Greetings today from Charm City...Baltimore, Md.

By Matt Hooper
Made it to Baltimore by about 3:30 p.m., despite the circumstances. Some of you may have heard about the giant pile-up on I-70 westbound this afternoon near the Maryland/West Virginia state line. Two people dead, 40 vehicles involved. I saw it from the eastbound side and the aftermath was not a pretty sight.

After hoping to see a bit of snow yesterday and eventually getting my wish last night in Blacksburg, I ended up with a little more than I bargained for today on the road to Baltimore. It had to have snowed for at least four of the six hours I was on the road...at times approaching white-out conditions. Here's a little first-hand video account: (BTW, if you don't have a satellite radio provider at this point, get one. That city-by-city traffic is a life-saver)

Any way, greetings from Baltimore...Edger Allen Poe country. And I hate to say it, but from what I've seen of this town, I'd write stuff crazier than Poe's if I lived here too. There are some interesting sights to be sure, but the blight is severe. "Wire"-like, indeed. But I did snag a nice hotel room here at the Peabody Court, where they serve an excellent fillet with blue cheese. Now that my hunger is satisfied, it's time for a shower, a bit of local TV and a good night's sleep. Tomorrow morning's wake up call: 4:30 a.m.
