Going with the flow is not my usual glass of wine, and it’s nevermy typical way of living life. I often find joy going against the grain, causing some kind of debate, and oh how I love to ruffle those feathers. Fortunately for my parent’s sake, and my reputation’s, it’s always for a positive purpose. So many negative issues in the world today seem to win the hearts of so many that are lost, looking for a wave to ride hoping to catch their identity in the midst of it. “Jumping on the bandwagon” they may call it. When it comes to sports teams, trends and other hash tags, we jump on it and ride it while it’s hot. Well there’s one bandwagon I jumped on and have been riding it like the wind! The “ we love and support people like Tim Tebow” wagon.
Who the heck is Tim Tebow you ask? Well I need to ask which rock you live under so I can come rescue you. Just flip on your TV and there are sports analysts arguing about him right now as you read. Tebow is the quarter back for the NFL’s Denver Broncos and in his second year in pro football he’s made more positive impact around the world and uproar in the media than any other athlete their entire career. I believe that’s simply because he’s not a coward. Point is, whatever religion, whatever race, and whatever background you come from; the greatest part of the ride is that everyone’s invited. People from all walks of life can’t help but love this young man. Not because of what team he plays for, what religion he is, what position he plays, but because he knows exactly who he is and doesn’t shy away from that. No matter the persecution, the hateful words of others and opinions from around the world, he stands for loving God and loving others and this, well, ruffles a lot of feathers. Ironically, he’s the hot topic on every single sports channel every single day, because I guess being a good person and standing up for good things discredits any athletic capability you may have.
So they spend hours debating if he’s good enough to be in the NFL, he continues to perform and somehow that just love to hate him. Parents pray for great role models for their children, one comes along and we all hate him. How about jumping on the bandwagon that supports people doing the right things. This bandwagon is really just about standing up for the good things you believe in, believing in yourself when others have said you can not for so long, loving God and loving others. The bandwagon is rolling, and it’s making life a lot more special! Are you coming? Jump on!
