Howl at the Moon Bar Crawl, Benefitting the Lupus Foundation of America, Mid-South Chapter. There is a reason it is called a pub crawl and not a pub walk, run or drive. I know I have personally experienced these ambitious adventures from one watering hole to another with the intention of crawling to each one. However, never have I participated in pub crawl with such a worthy cause behind it. In particular this pub crawl will benefit the Lupus Foundation of America. Indeed there will be food and drink specials throughout Five Points South and there will even be door prizes! All proceeds will go to the advancement of research and funding for combating Lupus throughout the Mid-South. The pub crawl will run from 7pm-10pm with tickets only costing $15 at the door.
Halloween. Okay, maybe last week’s Exorcist wasn’t quite your type of horror movie so you opted to stay home and watch re-runs of Seinfeld. However, tonight is Saturday night and Alabama Theatre is showing Halloween! Everyone has that crazy relative that is a homicidal murderer and psychiatric hospital escapee right? Completely relatable I’m sure or maybe that’s just me. Either way Michael Myers will sure enjoy your company. Movie starts at 7pm.

Vulcan AfterTunes Concert. Head on up to Vulcan Park for some good music and fun. No worries, there will be plenty of beverages for adults and children to enjoy while jamming out with great local artists. On top of all of that, it takes place with the best view of Birmingham as the backdrop. The performers this week are still TBA but do not be deterred. Third graders playing recorders would be okay with scenery such as this. Get out and enjoy the weather for a couple of hours. Show starts at 3pm.

Jennifer Pharr Davis, recordbreaking hiker of the Appalachian Trail speaks at Jefferson State Community College, Shelby Campus at the Health and Sciences Building. An inspirational and interesting story of someone who defeated the Appalachian Trail became an author and ultimately beat the overall record of 47 days for hiking the Appalachian Trail. Jennifer will not only be discussing what it took mentally and physically to accomplish this great feat but also how those same values and determination can be used in everyday life and business. Whatever your personal “Appalachian Trail” may be, there are certainly lessons to be learned from this exciting speakers’ journey. Free and starts at 6:30pm.

Alton Brown signs Good Eats 3 at Brookwood Village Books-A-Million So last week we had some down south, stick to your stomach style cookin’ from Paula Deen at Books-a-Million but this week we’ve got Alton Brown signing his newest cookbook, Good Eats 3 which is also the title of his TV show. Brown is more of a quirkier chef compared to Paula Deen and the like but definitely a star on the Food Network as well. Genuinely a nice guy Alton would be a good one to actually meet in person. Get your book, get your number and get in line down at Books-a-Million tonight.
Little Savannah Dinner.Tonight we are going to keep it simple and just do dinner, well three courses is relatively simple. I’m talking about heading down to Little Savannah for their Southern three course prix fixe menu. If you have never been to Little Savannah rest assured that Chef Clif will take care of your appetite with this popular special which has just returned. For anyone not keeping up with their French on Rosetta Stone, prix fixe means price fixed and the price is only $35.

UAB Women’s Soccer vs Memphis. I am not crazy and I do realize that it is football season. However, believe it or not there IS another kind of football, more commonly referred to as soccer by us Yanks. The UAB Blazers Women’s Soccer team is finishing up the season tonight against the Memphis Tigers. Come out and support a local school in lieu of watching a repeat of Jersey Shore, you know you love it.
