THURSDAY 11 AUTOZONE: The BJCC is dedicating a hefty amount of space and an extensive amount of time to automobiles this week with their 2011 “Alabama International Auto Show.”

WINDHAM UP: Red Mountain Theatre Company will celebrate the Halloween season this year with a production set against a familiar backdrop, with a familiar face to boot. The story begins with a group of young friends in a sleepy southern town who venture into a supposedly haunted house.

A little less than a week until Halloween. You’re off work and have nothing productive to do. You’re excited about the upcoming holidays, though, and you don’t want to spend the rest of the evening bored out of your mind. So you may as well hit up Rojo.

Watch your favorite team on Saturday, and then celebrate their victory (or their good sportsmanship) by sporting their colors while you enjoy the numerous activities the LJCC has lined up for the day. The schedule contains a number of globally distributed group-fitness classes, like BodyPump, Zumba, BodyFlow, BodyAttack, RPM and more.

ATTENTION DEFICIT DRAMA: If you’re someone who appreciates theatre, then you know the possible drawbacks that come when you step into an auditorium or amphitheater or concert hall to take in a play. You know that a restless audience can easily impede your enjoyment of the material.

This week, the Alys Robinson Stephens Performing Arts Center celebrates the beginning of their new season. In the course of their first 11 days, they will assemble close to 30 performances for your enjoyment, as well as bring together outdoor parties, an afternoon salon, lunchtime demonstrations and discussions, a show for families and more.

STEP INTO ART: There are a lot of reasons not to go to an art show. For one, the work could be lousy. You’re obviously not going to get much out of the experience if you don’t think the artist is talented. Secondly, exhibitions are often-times limited to one or two artists.

SELECT YOUR SCENE: Nights at the Firehouse, you’re most likely to see a string of four or five obscure bands with exceedingly esoteric names. The venue has been going strong almost a year now under this regiment—booking shows on four to five days out of the week, cramming the line-up full, and letting loose. So far it’s seemed to work like a charm, enough that the venue can afford to go out of its way this month to arrange some broader, more eclectic events.

In the eleven years since it premiered, Futurama has only seen six years of production. Cancelled in 2003 after four seasons, the show was relegated to Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, where it survived on a diet of syndication and DVD sales until 2007. Somewhere in that span, the internet spawned a fan upheaval of epic enough proportions to warrant more episodes, not unlike the ruckus caused by Family Guy’s audience that brought the return of that show a few years back. Enter Comedy Central with an agreement from 20th Century FOX to produce four straight-to-DVD films—and an all-new, bona fide season.
