God only knows that lawyers have used enough paper through the decades writing all of those long, indecipherable briefs and contracts, so I guess it's appropriate that the American Bar Association is calling on the nation's lawyers to help plant one million trees in the U.S. by 2014.
The One Million Trees Project was announced last week by the ABA's Section of Environment, Energy and Resources. One purpose of the program, according to an ABA press release, is to help reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide, which is thought to hasten global climate change. Lawyers can contribute to the effort by planting trees in their communities or by using the project's web site to buy trees that will be planted by one of the ABA's project partners, which include the Alliance for Community Trees (ACT) and the Arbor Day Foundation.
