Kick yourself if you missed "Antes Que Nada," the exhibit of contemporary Cuban art that was on display at the Alabama School of Fine Arts from September to December of last year. Read about it here
, and then resolve to see "Cuba Inside-Out,"
opening on Thursday, Jan. 29, at Lite Box Gallery
in the Pepper Place. There's a reception from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and the exhibit runs through March 9. Many of the same pieces that appeared in the ASFA show are display, alongside paintings, prints and photographs never shown before in the United States. Lite Box Gallery is located at 2825 Second Ave. South.
Art collector and show curator Stephen Humphreys recently gave a talk to the Southern Progress Club about his experiences visiting Cuba during the 50th anniversary of the revolution. His remarks are reprinted in full in this week's issue of Birmingham Weekly.
