UAB Women’s Soccer vs Memphis I am not crazy and I do realize that it is football season. However, believe it or not there IS another kind of football, more commonly referred to as soccer by us Yanks. The UAB Blazers Women’s Soccer team is finishing up the season tonight against the Memphis Tigers. Come out and support a local school in lieu of watching a repeat of Jersey Shore, you know you love it.

28 FRI

STOMP The critically acclaimed Broadway show STOMP is coming back to the BJCC! I have seen it more than once and each time it’s different but just as much fun. This time they have introduced a few new acts such as paint cans and tractor tire inner tubes which promises to be quite interesting to seeing what rhythmic beats they come up with while utilizing these “instruments”. Show starts at 8pm.

29 SAT

Steve Harvey Comedy Tour One of the original “Kings of Comedy”, Steve Harvey will be doing stand up at the BJCC tonight! Harvey had a good run on his TV show “The Steve Harvey Show” but is probably best known for his stand up routine and his role as one of the four comedians featured in the Spike Lee film The Original Kings of Comedy. I still own this DVD and even a decade later the humor is still great. Go check him out tonight. Tickets are only $55 call 800- 745-3000 for more info.

30 SUN

Boo at the Zoo A fun event for the young and old alike, Boo at the Zoo takes you through the zoo after it has morphed into a Halloween horror hike. Okay, it is kid friendly so feel free to wear your costumes but keep it on the less gruesome side, let’s not traumatize any children. Definitely a family friendly event people! Get in early. Event lasts from 5-9pm and is only eight bucks.

31 MON

Sloss Fright Furnace So I know last night you had to do Boo at the Zoo with the kids and just got finished trick or treating and are in need of some more adult entertain- ment. Get your mind out of the gutter; I am talking about Sloss Fright Furnace! This year there are two different trails. The furnace trail is remotely kid friendly but the woods trail is 14yrs and up. The former is the speedier of the two taking about 15 minutes. Personally, I think I can make it in five minutes flat because I will be running for my life, every man for themselves!

01 WED

Joel Gott Family Vineyards Wine Tasting. Halloween is over and it’s time to get back into the swing of things. If you went to Sloss last night and your nerves are still shot then it might be time for a drink or two. Stop by Whole Foods for wine tasting and a meet and greet with Joel Gott, winemaker and owner of Gott Family Vineyards from 5-7pm. This is a special onetime event where Whole Foods will also offer deep discounts on select Joel Gott wines. Make sure to stop by and stock up on your favorite bottles. Cheers!

02 THURS

Dia de los Muertos, Honoring Guillermo Castro. Day of the Dead is of national holiday status in Mexico and coincides with Catholicism’s All Saints Day and All Souls Day with the main focus on remembering loved ones who are no longer on this Earth. Traditionally the holiday is marked with a celebration which consists of local art, music, food and a procession of remembrance. In particular, this year Birmingham’s Day of the Dead Festival will be honoring a very well known and respected businessman from the community who recently passed away, Guillermo Castro. Even though the translation of Dia de los Muertos is Day of the Dead, it is really a celebration all about life and the good memories shared with loved ones no longer with us. Presented by Bare Hands Inc. at Gallery Soleil

03 TUES

26 Twenty-Six three course special. Last week we did Little Savannah’s three course special so I figured tonight we should do the same at 26 Twenty-Six. However, I always encounter the same problem when I eat at 26; it is so hard for me to order anything other than the grouper because it is my favorite! Alas, tonight the grouper will have to take a back seat because three courses at Twenty-Six for only $26 is just too good of a deal to pass up.
