Road Trip: MerleFest 2011

For the 24th year, MerleFest - named for Merle Watson, the late son of Americana icon Doc Watson - was held on the Wilkes Community College campus in Wilkesboro, N.C. For the first time, the Weekly was there to capture the sights and sounds of the spring ritual that took place April 28-May 1. From the precise guitar runs of Tony Rice to Donna The Buffalo's jam-happy sounds to the radio-friendly hits of The Doobie Brothers, there was truly something for all music lovers at MerleFest 2011.
