The Birmingham-Downtown chapter of the non-profit conservation group Ducks Unlimited (DU) has been recognized by the national organization for its fundraising efforts. The local chapter has been named to the group’s President’s Top 100.
This means that the Birmingham chapter was one of 100—of 3,500 DU chapters nationwide—that raised the most money to help preserve the wetlands that serve as habitat for ducks. According to a DU news release, the group was started in 1937 and has saved more than 13 million acres of wetlands with contributions from more than a million supporters.
“DU chapters throughout the country are showing that the future of waterfowl populations and wetlands that filter our drinking water are important to them and their communities,” according to DU president John Pope. Learn more at www.ducks.org.
