Ruffner Mountain Nature Center needs volunteers to help plant such native species as ferns, hydrangeas and dogwoods around its new, award-winning Tree Top Visitor Center from Nov. 20-22. The hours will be 8:30 a.m.-noon on Friday and Saturday, and 1-3 p.m. on Sunday.
The work will include digging holes; planting and transplanting; mixing soil amendments; and topping areas with pine straw and leaves.
According to Michelle Reynolds of the RMNC, the plantings will help restore the land around the recently completed facility and will help further Ruffner's goal of enhancing the ecological function of the landscape.
For information, contact Reynolds at (205) 914-7077 or coverings@bham.rr.com. For more about the RMNC, go to www.ruffnermountain.org.
