UNA president William Cale said that the university hopes to save 15 percent on energy costs. Not including the university’s pre-Civil War buildings, UNA buildings are, on average, 70 years old.
The renovations, which have already begun, will make the Florence campus one of the greenest in the state. These efforts are part of the school's Green Campus Initiative. According to a press release found at www.una.edu, the initiative is "designed to promote greater efficiencies of energy usage, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and recycling of appropriate items."
