Last month the Birmingham Business Journal reported in this article that the Hunter brothers were “scouting for business partners.” Infused with enough cheery YP/business-speak to peal paint, the article said the Hunter brothers were laying “the groundwork for change,” whatever that means.

According to a SouthPace properties flier we received this week, the owners are open to all options: “Partnership, joint venture, sale or lease.”
Or to be more blunt, they’re unloading the business.
Since the Hunter brothers opened the entertainment complex six years ago, WorkPlay has been an active music venue, with acts such as Taylor Hicks, Maroon 5, Train and Clint Black performing there. And did we mention Taylor Hicks? Because the SouthPace flier makes it sound like he comes with the furniture.
The facility has a soundstage, recording studio, office space, bar and performance stage, totaling more than 30,000 square feet.
Hopefully an ambitious and well-funded entrepreneur will find a bargain in this deal, but if the Hunter brothers couldn’t make the whole package work, then that’s enough to worry us about WorkPlay’s future.
